15 things we bet you don't know about the cult children's cartoon 1) The Flintstones was originally aimed at an adult audience and the first two seasons were co-sponsored by Winston cigarettes. But by the third season it was being written for children and was sponsored by Welch’s, who produced grape juice and jellies.   2) The show's famous theme tune, "Meet The Flintstones", was not used until the third series. The musical theme for the first two seasons was called “Rise and Shine”. 3) Fred and Wilma Flintstone were the first couple to be shown in bed together on prime-time television when the show first aired on ABC between 1960 and 1966. 4) Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble fronted a TV advertising campaign for Wintston cigarettes - a move that would be unthinkable for children's television characters today. 5) Many critics believe that the show was a Stone Age parody of the 1950s US TV sitcom, The Honeymooners, which featured two newlywed cou

Microsoft Office 2010 is about to be released

Microsoft Office 2010 has reached the release to manufacturing (RTM) stage, marking the end of development for the popular office software. Now the software will be distributed to manufacturers, followed by businesses, retailers, and customers. In general, when a piece of software reaches the release to manufacturing stage, it is ready for mass distribution. Microsoft manufacturing partners and computer makers will get the software first, followed by businesses and then finally general customers. Product downloads for Volume License Partners begin on April 27th, while general customers can expect to see Office 2010 on shelves starting in June. “RTM is the final engineering milestone of a product release and our engineering team has poured their heart and soul into reaching this milestone,” said Microsoft Corporate Vice-President Takeshi Numoto in a blog post earlier today. “It is also an appropriate time to re-emphasize our sincere gratitude to the more than 5,000

Are Computers Male or Female ?

Image
Why computers may be female: No one but their creator understands their internal logic. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval. As soon as you commit to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it. Why computers may be male: In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on. They have a lot of data but still can’t think for themselves. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

Silverlight web content in Ubuntu

Image
Microsoft Silverlight is a web application framework that provides functionalities similar to those in Adobe Flash, integrating multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime environment. For Linux users Silverlight is not available as it is therefore Mono has developed Moonlight  which enables viewing web content that has been created for Microsoft Silverlight. It's rather new, and doesn't deliver as smooth a user experience as we would like. Hopefully that will improve in the future. Note: Do not install Moonlight from the Ubuntu repositories, because the version they contain is usually outdated. query moonlight-plugin-Mozilla in Synaptic Package Manager (System –> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager) to see whether it has been installed. If found to be installed, remove it completely. Then install the most recent version of Moonlight as follows: visit this website and install the plugin. If you visit Microsoft Silverli

Jupiter Closest to Earth Tonight, With Uranus Just Behind

Gas giant planet will be nearest to us since 1951. A stargazer views Jupiter (brightest dot) from Hungary earlier this month. Jupiter will be making its closest approach to Earth Monday night since 1951, and for about the next four months the giant planet will be teamed up with a distant relative: Uranus . Jupiter will officially be nearest to our planet—368 million miles (592 million kilometers) away—when it reaches opposition, the term for when the sun, Earth, and a given planet are lined up in a row. "Oppositions of the Earth and Jupiter occur roughly every 400 days, due to Earth catching up to Jupiter and lapping it in its race around the sun," said Raminder Singh Samra, resident astronomer at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. "But because the orbits of the planets are slightly elliptical, the distances between oppositions vary, and so the next time [Earth and Jupiter] are this close won't be until 2022." For the
